A standard 52-card deck is used. Cards rank from highest to lowest: A-K-Q-J-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2. In Call Break, spades are always trump, meaning any spade card beats a card from any other suit. Dealing and gameplay proceed counter-clockwise. Note that in this game, a "trick" is called a "hand," and a "bid" is referred to as a "call."

Each player receives 13 cards, and the game starts with everyone declaring how many hands they believe they can win.

Players then follow the established rules, aiming to win at least the number of hands they called.

Failing to meet your call results in points being subtracted. The game consists of 5 rounds, and the player with the highest total score at the end is the winner.
