Hanafuda Koi-Koi is a traditional Japanese card game that has been enjoyed for generations.
This English version maintains all the authentic elements of the classic Japanese Hanafuda Koi-Koi game.
Koi-Koi (Japanese: こいこい) represents one of the most beloved two-player variations of Hanafuda, Japan's traditional floral playing cards.
The aim is to create valuable card combinations faster than your opponent. The name "Koi-Koi" comes from the Japanese gambling call meaning "Keep going!" - used when choosing to continue play for potentially bigger rewards.
Players compete to assemble special card combinations called "yaku" in their scoring pile. Cards are captured by matching your hand or drawn cards with those on the table. After forming a yaku, you may either end the round to claim points or risk continuing (calling "Koi-Koi") to build multiple yaku for higher scores. While individual cards carry no point value, they contribute to forming these prized combinations.
