Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 with Fun Video Marking 10M RE4 Players
Capcom has subtly teased Resident Evil 9 in a clever way that's hidden in plain sight. To celebrate reaching an impressive milestone of 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team released a celebratory video on social media on April 25. The video features Ada Wong in a secretive conversation with a notorious villain, then transitions to Leon surrounded by an infected crowd wearing party hats as they shuffle towards a church.
The scene then shifts to a rock song, with Dr. Salvador humorously strumming his chainsaw as if it were a guitar, and the camera pans to reveal a fist-pumping Leon. Behind him, a rustic sign proudly displays the message "Thank you for playing."

However, eagle-eyed fans have noticed something intriguing: when the "Thank you for playing" sign is turned on its side, the boards form the Roman numeral "IX," which translates to the number 9. While this could be a mere coincidence, horror game leaker Dusk Golem points out that there's no lower plank on the sign in earlier parts of the video, suggesting it was added deliberately. This has sparked much speculation among fans.
One fan responded in surprise, stating, "I know what you did here," accompanied by a wide-eyed emoji.
Capcom has officially announced that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, presumed to be Resident Evil 9, will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7. Nakanishi shared his thoughts at the time, saying, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Although not officially confirmed, rumors suggest the game will be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
