May 2025 PS Plus Game Linked to Hollywood Movie

It looks like one of the PlayStation Plus games for May 2025 has been leaked, and while Sony hasn't confirmed anything yet, rumors are swirling that the teen slasher horror game Until Dawn might be available as a free download for PlayStation players next month. The key art hints at the possibility of it being the Until Dawn Remastered version, rather than the original 2014 release, but we'll need to wait for official confirmation to be sure.

PlayStation Plus is an online gaming service for PlayStation platforms that offers a range of benefits, including free monthly games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer, and member-exclusive discounts. It also provides a catalog of hundreds of current and classic games for Extra and Premium members, though the monthly free games are accessible to all subscribers, regardless of their tier.

Speculation from the PlayStation subreddit (thanks to PushSquare) suggests that this could be a promotional move tied to the recent release of the Until Dawn movie, which hit theaters just before the weekend. Unfortunately, the movie didn't meet expectations, earning a 5/10 from us at IGN. Our review stated, "Until Dawn is more disappointing than deadly, leaving all the promise of the horror game behind for a jumble of horror-movie re-creations."

The 2024 remaster of Until Dawn also received a 5/10 from us, with our review describing it as "an overpriced and under-featured remake that seems less like a must-have bit of moonlit murder and something closer to daylight robbery." In contrast, Supermassive's 2015 original was more favorably received, earning a 7.5/10.

In other PlayStation Plus news, 22 games are scheduled to be removed from the library next month, including Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of first-party titles Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. As a result, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will no longer be available on modern consoles.
