Harrison Ford: 'Indiana Jones Proves AI Isn't Needed to Capture My Soul'
Harrison Ford, the iconic actor behind Indiana Jones, has expressed his approval of Troy Baker's portrayal of the character in the video game "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle." In a conversation with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Ford humorously remarked, "You don’t need artificial intelligence to steal my soul. You can already do it for nickels and dimes with good ideas and talent. He did a brilliant job, and it didn’t take AI to do it." This statement underscores Ford's satisfaction with Baker's performance, emphasizing the value of human creativity over artificial intelligence.
"Indiana Jones and the Great Circle," released in December, has been described as an "authentic" yet potentially non-canonical addition to the storied franchise. This game's positive reception contrasts sharply with the lukewarm response to the 2023 film "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," the first new film in the series in years. The favorable feedback on the game might encourage the franchise's creators to explore new avenues rather than relying on Ford reprising his role.
Ford, celebrated for his roles in "Star Wars," "Indiana Jones," and his upcoming appearance in the Marvel universe, joins a chorus of creatives voicing concerns about AI in media. Tim Burton has labeled AI-generated art as "very disturbing," while Nicolas Cage has dismissed it as a "dead end." The issue extends to voice acting, with notable figures like Ned Luke from "Grand Theft Auto 5" and Doug Cockle from "The Witcher" speaking out against AI. Luke criticized a chatbot that mimicked his voice, and Cockle warned IGN that while AI is "inevitable," it is also "dangerous," potentially robbing voice actors of their livelihoods.
