IGN is excited to share that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, in Melbourne starting September 18, 2025. Developed by Team Cherry, a studio based in Adelaide, South Australia, this highly anticipated game has been at the top of Steam's wishlist chart for years. While a specific release date remains elusive beyond the broad 2025 window, fans can at least look forward to getting hands-on experience with the game at the museum.

Silksong will be featured in ACMI's video game exhibition, Game Worlds, which will showcase not only the playable game but also delve into its intricate design and artistic direction. This includes displays of the hundreds of sprites animating Hornet's movements and attacks, as well as insights into the logic behind the game's most challenging boss fights.

ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell expressed their enthusiasm, saying, “Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!”

As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, which is one of several design elements that will be on display in the Game Worlds exhibition. The image was provided to IGN with permission.

With Silksong set to be playable at ACMI from September 18, fans are hopeful that the game's release might precede this date, perhaps even as early as August. The anticipation is building, especially after Silksong made a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, where Team Cherry confirmed the 2025 release window and offered a glimpse of new gameplay.

Originally announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, with versions for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 to follow, Silksong has been the subject of various teasers. The year 2025 started with a mysterious tease involving a chocolate cake recipe, stirring hope among fans for a more imminent reveal.
