Killer Instinct Gold has been newly added to the Nintendo Switch Online library, offering Nintendo 64 fans a chance to revisit this classic. This title, a port of the arcade hit Killer Instinct 2, joins its predecessor, Killer Instinct, providing an enhanced fighting experience for subscribers of the Online Expansion Pack.

Originally launched in 1996, Killer Instinct Gold was crafted by the renowned British studio Rare. At the time, Rare was a key second-party developer for Nintendo, responsible for iconic games such as Donkey Kong Country, Goldeneye 007, and Perfect Dark. The game features a robust roster of 10 fighters and a variety of game modes, boasting "hundreds of thousands of moves and killer Combos at your fingertips."

Now under the ownership of Microsoft, the Killer Instinct franchise continues to make waves, with Killer Instinct Gold becoming another Xbox Game Studios title available on the Switch. Since the release of the Xbox One launch title, Killer Instinct, in 2013, there have been no announcements regarding a new sequel.

Preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 started at the end of April, with the console priced at $449.99. The demand was intense, leading Nintendo to issue a warning to U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store, stating that release date delivery might not be guaranteed. However, Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, reassured IGN that the company expects to meet consumer demand "through the holidays."
