Marvel Snap Faces U.S. Blockage Amid TikTok Scrutiny

Marvel Snap, developed by California-based Second Dinner and published by ByteDance's Nuverse, was unexpectedly removed from iOS and Android on January 18, 2025. This ban, impacting other ByteDance apps like CapCut and Lemon8, left many players frustrated, particularly due to the lack of prior warning and continued in-app purchases before the lockout. While PC users can still access the game via Steam, the sudden unavailability sparked outrage and concern.

Second Dinner has publicly confirmed their commitment to restoring Marvel Snap's availability, stating on Platform X: “Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress.”

Interestingly, the ban's impact on other ByteDance applications is inconsistent. While some, such as Marvel Snap, were removed, others, including Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground, remain accessible.

Recent additions to the game, like the Ongoing card Moonstone, have added to the ongoing discussion surrounding the game's meta. Moonstone's ability to copy the Ongoing effects of 1, 2, and 3-cost cards in her lane presents a significant power boost, especially given the existing number of low-cost Ongoing cards already available. Unlike cards like Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, which primarily use their effects for power generation, Moonstone leverages these effects for rapid power accumulation.
