Netflix Cancels Stories, Yet Playable!
Netflix has officially announced the closure of its interactive fiction games under the Netflix Stories banner, marking the end of what was a brief foray into narrative gaming. This decision might come as a surprise to many, especially considering the solid player base these games had cultivated. So, why did Netflix decide to pull the plug on Netflix Stories? Let's dive into the details to uncover the full story!
The closure was first reported by Variety and is part of a larger strategic shift at Netflix Games. The company is now focusing its efforts on developing mobile titles that include party games, games for kids, mainstream releases, and other interactive experiences that can be enjoyed on TVs.
Boss Fight Entertainment, the creative force behind the Netflix Stories series, will continue to collaborate with Netflix on other projects, including the highly anticipated Squid Game: Unleashed.
Is Netflix Stories Shutting Down?
Despite facing some criticism, the Netflix Stories games consistently ranked well among Netflix's gaming offerings. Recent reports indicate that the series sits fourth in the Netflix Games top 10 carousel, a ranking based on playtime rather than downloads.
Looking ahead, the final interactive title in the Netflix Stories lineup will be Love Is Blind: NYC. Once this game is fully rolled out, no new titles will be developed under the Netflix Stories banner. This announcement comes shortly after the Netflix Stories app began teasing its next game, The Love Contract, which was slated for release on April 8th.
Unlike its predecessors, The Love Contract was not based on any existing Netflix IP. It was set to be an original romance story revolving around an actress navigating a complex love triangle with a Hollywood star and a billionaire, all amidst a backdrop of fame, scandal, and fake dating. Unfortunately, this game has now been cancelled.
While no new games will be developed, the existing Netflix Stories titles will remain available for players to enjoy. Games such as Love Is Blind, Emily in Paris, Money Heist, Love Is Blind: Winter’s Kiss, Perfect Match, Sex Education, Selling Sunset, Sweet Magnolias, Virgin River, and The Perfect Couple will continue to be accessible. However, planned sequels like Outer Banks and Ginny & Georgia have been cancelled.
So, there you have it—the full scoop on the cancellation of Netflix Stories! If you're a fan of Netflix shows, you might want to check out the existing games on the Google Play Store.
