Netflix Reveals Legendary Batman Voice Actor Kevin Conroy's Posthumous Role in Devil May Cry Anime With New Trailer
The hunt for demons is about to kick off in style as Netflix unveils its much-anticipated anime adaptation of the iconic video game series, Devil May Cry. Fans were recently treated to a thrilling new trailer, but the excitement doesn't stop there. The series will feature the legendary late voice actor Kevin Conroy, who posthumously lends his voice to the character VP Baines. Conroy, celebrated for his enduring portrayal of Bruce Wayne and Batman across numerous animated projects, can be heard in the trailer's opening, bringing his unique talent to this new role.
Conroy's final performance in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 3 earlier in July 2024 was met with widespread acclaim, making his involvement in Devil May Cry a poignant addition to his legacy, especially following his passing in November 2022 at the age of 66. Joining Conroy in the cast are Scout Taylor-Compton as Mary, Hoon Lee as White Rabbit, Chris Coppola as Enzo, and Johnny Yong Bosch voicing the protagonist, Dante.
The official synopsis from Netflix teases a gripping plot: "Sinister forces are at play to open the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck."
The series is helmed by showrunner Adi Shankar, known for his executive production roles in films such as the 2012 Judge Dredd reboot, Dredd, the Brad Pitt starrer Killing Them Softly, and the Ryan Reynolds film The Voices from 2014. Shankar is also attached to an Assassin’s Creed adaptation, although its release remains uncertain since its announcement in 2017.
Production duties fall to Studio Mir, the renowned South Korean studio behind hits like The Legend of Korra and X-Men ‘97. Devil May Cry is set to premiere on Netflix on April 3, 2025, promising a blend of high-octane action and compelling storytelling.
