Square Enix Announced NieR 15th Anniversary Special Novel

Square Enix marked NieR's 15th Anniversary with a host of announcements, spotlighting upcoming events and projects. During the livestream on April 19, they introduced NieR's online Special Novel, titled [U]ndecided Option.

The online novel will feature three updates, with the first already available. The subsequent updates will be released on April 25 and May 2. The novel's synopsis teases, "Such a 'servant' meets a mysterious boy with a mysterious air and is guided."

In addition to the novel, Square Enix launched a dedicated 15th Anniversary website, serving as the central hub for the special novel and other related projects and events planned for the celebration.

Exhibition, Concerts, Merchandise, and More

Square Enix is set to host an exhibition at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Japan, showcasing new artwork featuring the protagonists from Replicant, Automata, and Re[in]carnation. Further details on tickets and other information will be released soon.

New performances for the NieR: Orchestra Concert 12024 are scheduled for Osaka on July 25 and 26, and Tokyo on August 2 and 3. Tickets are currently available through a lottery system, with more information available on the concert's official website.

Several new merchandise items were also announced, including an album featuring newly recorded jazz arrangements from NieR: Dinner Show – Somethin’ or Other 12024, set for release in December 2024. The NieR Weapon Story book, which includes over 650 weapon stories from Replicant, Automata, and Re[in]carnation, and scale figures of the NieR series protagonists were also revealed.

Re[in]carnation Developer Blog

NieR's first mobile title, NieR Re[in]carnation, will feature a developer blog starting on April 28, with monthly updates planned through the rest of the year. These updates will offer insights into the creation process of Re[in]carnation.

Originally launched in January 2021, Re[in]carnation was discontinued in April 2024 due to monetization challenges. The announcement of a developer blog for a now-closed game has sparked speculation among fans about a potential sequel or remake, though no official word has been given.

The livestream concluded with a captivating 20+ minute live performance, featuring soundtracks from across the NieR franchise. Square Enix promises more surprises for NieR fans with additional events and merchandise to be announced in the near future.
