Nintendo Reveals Pricey Upgrades for Switch 2 Games

Nintendo has recently announced the upgrade costs for two popular Switch games transitioning to the Switch 2 Edition: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. These upgrades come with a hefty price tag, significantly higher than previous offerings.

Previously, upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from the original Switch version to the Switch 2 Edition cost $9.99 each. However, as noted by NintendoLife, the upgrade packs for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are priced at over double that amount each.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild offers improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integrates with the new "Zelda Notes" service in the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version of Breath of the Wild can purchase an "upgrade pack" for $10 to access these enhanced features.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land includes new story content in its "Star-Crossed World" expansion. Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree's Switch 2 Edition introduces "Jamboree TV," a new suite of content that leverages the Joy-Con 2's mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. Both editions also boast upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functions.

While U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are not yet available—possibly due to uncertainties related to President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the upgrade pack for Kirby and the Forgotten Land at £16.99 / €19.99, more than twice the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. The same price applies to the Super Mario Party Jamboree upgrade, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99.

The high $20 upgrade price for both games may be influenced by the steep $80 cost of their full Switch 2 Editions: Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV. The original Switch versions of these games are priced at $59.99 each, $20 less than their Switch 2 counterparts.

It's worth noting that subscribers to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack can upgrade both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom at no additional cost. However, no such offer is currently available for Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders began on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. The demand has been incredibly high, leading Nintendo to warn U.S. customers applying for pre-orders from the My Nintendo Store that delivery on the release date is not guaranteed.
