"Red Dead Redemption 2 Rumored for Nintendo Switch 2 by 2025 with Next-Gen Upgrade"
Rumors are swirling that Red Dead Redemption 2 could be making its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 by the end of 2025. According to GameReactor, sources "close to Rockstar" suggest that not only is a Switch 2 port in the works, but a "next-gen upgrade patch" for Red Dead Redemption 2 on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S is also on the horizon. These updates are expected to enhance the gaming experience on current-gen systems and could be released as early as later this year.
Echoing these claims, Nintenduo also reports that the Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is slated for release within Take-Two's current financial year, ending March 31, 2026. However, it remains uncertain whether the game will be available digitally-only or also as a physical edition.
When Red Dead Redemption 2 was first released in 2018, it was hailed as a "masterpiece" by IGN's Red Dead Redemption 2 review, earning a perfect 10/10 score. The review praised the game as "a meticulously polished open-world ode to the outlaw era."
The potential arrival of Red Dead Redemption 2 on the Switch 2 might not come as a shock, given Take-Two's CEO Strauss Zelnick's recent comments in a Q&A with investors. Zelnick expressed "great optimism" for the Nintendo Switch 2 and mentioned that Take-Two plans to launch four titles on the platform. This includes Civilization 7 on the launch day (June 5), the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series (with unclear specifics on which games and release dates), and Borderlands 4 (September 12). Zelnick noted that Nintendo has been more supportive of third-party publishers this time around, hinting at the possibility of more titles from Take-Two's back catalog making their way to the Switch 2. While GTA 6 might not be in the cards, classics like GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2 could be strong contenders.
