Rune Slayer Fishing: Beginner's Guide
If you ever doubted that *Rune Slayer* isn’t an MMORPG, let the presence of fishing settle the debate: it’s officially an MMORPG. But let’s get serious—you’re here to master the art of fishing in *Rune Slayer*, and we’ve got you covered. We struggled with this initially, but we’ve cracked the code and are eager to share how you can start reeling in those catches. Spoiler Alert: It’s not as straightforward as in *Fisch*.

Before you cast your first line, make sure to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman**. You'll find this white-haired NPC at one of the piers where the Baracuda swims. Simon tasks you with catching 5 “fish,” and in return, he’ll reward you with a Tackle Box (we’ll explain the quotation marks later).
Here’s the catch: **to start fishing, you’ll need a fishing rod and some bait/tackle**. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman is your go-to vendor for these essentials.

**Purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon**. While most players suggest having at least 5 worms, we opted for 10 to be on the safe side. **Note that you cannot equip the bait**. Instead, the Worms simply need to be in your inventory; they're automatically used when you fish. **Each time you catch a fish, one Worm is removed from your inventory**.
But here’s the crucial detail: **you won’t be able to catch any fish without at least 5 bait items**. We initially tried with just one Worm and came up empty-handed. Once we had 5 Worms, the fish started biting. We recommend placing the Worms in your hotbar to easily monitor your supply. With these items secured, you’re ready to move to the next step.

First, **select your Wood Fishing Rod**. You can’t equip it traditionally; just move it to your hotbar or access it from your inventory, and your character will ready it with both hands.
**Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water** (the pier near Simon the Fisherman is a great spot). Then, **keep an eye on the bobber**. When you see it **ripple once or twice**, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**. That’s the basic technique.
**Keep in mind, this method isn’t foolproof**. More often than not, you’ll come up empty-handed. Sometimes, you’ll pull in junk, but the good news is **Simon counts junk as a catch** (hence the earlier quotation marks around “fish”).
So, your goal is to cast your line, wait for the ripples, hit M1, and reel in anything five times. We managed to catch only two actual fish, while the rest were Old Cups.

**Once you’ve caught 5 “fish”, return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest**. He’ll reward you with a tackle box. Open it and store your remaining worms inside to save inventory space for future fishing adventures.
That’s the essence of fishing in *Rune Slayer*. Enjoy your time on the water! For more tips and tricks, don’t forget to check out our **The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to *Rune Slayer***.
