Shrek 5 has unveiled its all-new cast along with a brand-new teaser trailer, sparking reactions even from Movie Sonic, who's unsure what to make of Shrek's fresh appearance. In a humorous video shared on TikTok, the Sonic Movie account offered "advice for green ogres," playfully showcasing Movie Sonic's transformation from his controversial original live-action design to the well-received revised version that debuted months later.

IGN provided the exclusive first look at the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie back in 2018, and the feedback was mixed, with fans expressing fascination and concern over the character's teeth, physique, tiny eyes, and unusually human-like fingers. In response to the backlash, director Jeff Fowler decided to overhaul the controversial design, promising a more authentic representation of the beloved character. The redesign was much better received by fans.

Although the reactions to Shrek's new look aren't as divisive as Sonic's initial live-action debut, Sonic's playful response has entertained fans. One commenter noted, "You know it's bad when you see the Sonic Movie account giving Shrek 5 advice," while another exclaimed, "No way they actually posted this" with a crying emoji.

The fifth installment of the Shrek franchise was originally announced in 2016, but it took a backseat until Chris Meledandri, CEO of animation studio Illumination, announced its active development in 2023. Alongside plans for a Donkey spin-off, Universal Pictures has shifted Shrek 5's release date to December 23, 2026, placing the Despicable Me 3 spin-off Minions 3 in its former slot.
