Nonograms, also known as Hanjie, Griddlers, Picross, Japanese Crosswords, Japanese Puzzles, Pic-a-Pix, "Paint by numbers," and other names, are engaging picture logic puzzles. In these puzzles, you color or leave blank cells in a grid according to numbers on the sides, revealing a hidden picture. These numbers represent discrete tomography, indicating the count of unbroken lines of filled squares in each row or column. For instance, a clue like "4 8 3" means there are sets of four, eight, and three filled squares, in that order, with at least one blank square between successive groups.

To solve these puzzles, you need to identify which cells should be filled (boxes) and which should remain empty (spaces). Marking spaces accurately is crucial, as it helps determine where a clue may spread later in the solving process. Solvers typically use dots or crosses to mark cells they are certain are spaces. Importantly, never guess; only fill cells that logic dictates. A single incorrect guess can spread errors across the entire puzzle, ruining the solution.
