The app enhances your smart home experience by enabling you to connect, monitor, and control multiple devices quickly. Plus, you can use voice assistants such as Alexa, Bixby, and Google Assistant to manage your devices hands-free.

While SmartThings is optimized for Samsung smartphones, some features may have limited functionality when used with other vendors' smartphones. Additionally, certain features may not be available in all regions.

For added convenience, SmartThings can also be installed on Wear OS-based watches. However, SmartThings for Wear OS requires a connection to a mobile phone. Enhance your experience by adding a SmartThings tile to your watch for quick access to routines and device control, and use SmartThings complications to navigate directly to the app from your watch face.

App Requirements

Please note that not all mobile devices are supported. Your device must have at least 2GB of RAM. For Galaxy users, Smart View is required for screen mirroring capabilities.

App Permissions

SmartThings requires certain permissions to function optimally. While you can use the app without granting optional permissions, some features may be limited:

• Location: Allows the app to locate your devices, create location-based routines, and scan for nearby devices using Wi-Fi.
• Nearby Devices: (Android 12 and above) Enables scanning for nearby devices using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
• Notifications: (Android 13 and above) Provides notifications about SmartThings devices and features.
• Camera: Used to scan QR codes for easy addition of members and devices to SmartThings.
• Microphone: Facilitates adding certain devices using high-frequency sounds.
• Storage: (Android 9-11) Enables saving data and sharing content.
• Files and Media: (Android 12) Used for saving data and sharing content.
• Photos and Videos: (Android 13 and above) Allows playing photos and videos on SmartThings devices.
• Music and Audio: (Android 13 and above) Enables playing sound and video on SmartThings devices.
• Phone: (Android 9) Used for making calls on smart speakers and displaying information about shared content.
• Phone: (Android 10 and above) Enables making calls on smart speakers.
• Contacts: (Android 9) Retrieves phone numbers for text message notifications and identifies content senders.
• Contacts: (Android 10 and above) Retrieves phone numbers for text message notifications.
• Physical Activity: (Android 10 and above) Detects when you start pet walks.
