Alienware Area-51 Gains RTX 5090 Support

Author : Nathan Jan 15,2026

Earlier this year, Dell revived the iconic Alienware Area-51 lineup of prebuilt gaming PCs, but initially, it was only available with one graphics card option: the RTX 5080. That limitation has now been lifted. Starting today, you can configure your Alienware Area-51 with an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU and, at long last, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 GPU, with configurations starting at $5,499.99. The best part is you won't face a long wait; Dell estimates shipping will begin in early April.

While the $5,500 configuration might be considered the "base" model for an Alienware Area-51 with a 5090 GPU, the specifications at this price point are still impressive and well-equipped. It features an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU, 32GB of DDR5-6400MHz RAM, and a 2TB NVMe SSD. The Core Ultra 9 285K is Intel's current flagship processor, delivering exceptional performance for both workstations and gaming. While it doesn't represent a massive leap over the i9-14900K, it remains the best available option from Intel. The CPU is kept cool by a substantial 360mm all-in-one liquid cooler, and the entire system is reliably powered by a 1,500W 80Plus Platinum-rated power supply.

What's New for 2025: The Alienware Area-51 Chassis

Dell introduced the new Alienware Area-51 gaming PC at CES 2025. The chassis retains a similar profile to the 2024 R16 model but features redesigned aesthetics and cooling, along with updated internal hardware. The I/O panel has been relocated to the top of the case, and the tempered glass side panel now extends across the entire side instead of a smaller window. This change removes the previous side vents; instead, air intakes are positioned at the bottom and front of the chassis. Alienware has adopted a positive airflow design, meaning more air is drawn in than exhausted, which helps reduce dust buildup inside. The internal components have been modernized with a new motherboard, faster RAM, and a more robust power supply to fully support the latest CPUs and GPUs.

The RTX 5090 Stands as the Most Powerful Graphics Card Available

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 has solidified its position as the most powerful consumer GPU on the market. While NVIDIA has focused heavily on software enhancements, AI capabilities, and DLSS 4 technology to boost gaming performance, the 5090 still delivers a remarkable 25% to 30% improvement in raw, hardware-based rasterization performance over the RTX 4090. The 5090 also comes with more VRAM (32GB compared to 24GB) and utilizes faster GDDR7 memory versus the 4090's GDDR6. This graphics card is incredibly challenging to find at its official retail price and is currently selling for between $3,500 and $4,000 on eBay.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 FE Review by Jackie Thomas

"The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 has officially claimed the performance crown from the RTX 4090, though the margin of victory is narrower than in previous generational leaps. In terms of traditional, non-AI gaming performance, the RTX 5090 offers one of the smallest performance uplifts we've seen in recent years. However, in titles that support DLSS 4, the technology delivers substantial frame rate improvements—you just have to accept that a significant portion of those frames are AI-generated."
