Bandai Namco to Shut Down PAC-MAN Mobile

Bandai Namco has made the surprising announcement of the shutdown of PAC-MAN Mobile, especially poignant as the iconic character celebrates its 45th anniversary this year. This mobile version, which hit the market over a decade ago, is set to close its doors soon.

When Is the PAC-MAN Mobile Shutdown?

The official shutdown date for PAC-MAN Mobile is scheduled for May 30th, 2025. As of April 1st, in-app purchases have been discontinued. If you're among the dedicated players still enjoying the game, you can continue to do so until the final day.

The decision to completely shut down the game rather than offer an offline version has led to widespread disappointment among the community. Many players have voiced their preference for an offline mode, which would not only keep the game alive but also continue generating revenue for Bandai Namco.

PAC-MAN Mobile, formerly known as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, was more than just a nostalgic trip back to the classic arcade experience. It featured an 8-bit arcade mode, a Story Mode with a plethora of original mazes, and an Adventure Mode complete with limited-time themed events where players could earn exclusive skins. Additionally, the Tournament Mode offered weekly maze challenges with three difficulty levels, and a variety of skins for PAC-MAN, the ghosts, the joystick, and more.

The Reason

The game's decline can be attributed to persistent bugs and issues that have accumulated over the years, likely contributing significantly to the decision to shut it down. Reflecting on the game's launch on Android, the early days were filled with excitement as players competed for high scores and leaderboard rankings, making it a truly enjoyable experience.

For those who wish to enjoy PAC-MAN Mobile one last time before its shutdown, you can still download it from the Google Play Store.
