Currently, only two major first-party games are available for the Nintendo Switch 2: Mario Kart World Tour and Donkey Kong Bananza. While both are excellent, Donkey Kong Bananza has firmly established itself as one of the year's top titles and is an essential purchase for any Switch 2 owner.

Not only did we award Donkey Kong Bananza a perfect 10/10, it's also the only game to receive our Masterpiece rating this year. Admittedly, the competition among 2025's Switch exclusives has been limited, but it's been an outstanding year for console gaming overall. We've seen some of the finest releases in recent memory, including Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Death Stranding 2, and Doom: The Dark Ages, all of which came close to a Masterpiece score but fell just short. This isn't to suggest Donkey Kong Bananza is inherently superior to those other titles—different reviewers covered each game—but it highlights how exceptionally it performed on its own merits to earn that rating.
