FromSoftware has recently unveiled more details about their upcoming exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2, titled The Duskbloods. This collaboration with Nintendo has not only influenced the game's style but also introduced a unique twist to the design of the hub area's keeper, transforming it into a more adorable figure.

The game's trailer, showcased during the Switch 2 Direct, ended with an intriguing shot of a winged rat adorned with glowing glyphs, directly engaging the audience. This character, as it turns out, serves as the hub companion in The Duskbloods.

In an interview with Nintendo, director Hidetaka Miyazaki explained, "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance." He further elaborated on the character's design, stating, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership. We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman (laughter)."

FromSoftware's shrine keepers have always been pivotal to players' journeys, acting as familiar faces like Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll, who offer assistance and empowerment throughout the game. In The Duskbloods, a PvPvE game, the winged rat's specific role in providing advice and guidance remains to be fully explored. Miyazaki hinted at the game's innovative approach, saying, "The team at FromSoft has tried its hands at introducing 'a lot of new and interesting ideas,'" suggesting that players should expect surprises when The Duskbloods launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
