EA hints Madden, FC may thrive on Switch 2

As anticipated, EA has set its sights on the Nintendo Switch 2 as a potential platform for its games. During a recent earnings call, CEO Andrew Wilson responded to questions about Nintendo's next-generation console by hinting at the company's plans to release multiple titles on the upcoming system.

Wilson specifically highlighted EA's lucrative sports franchises—Madden and FC—as having strong potential to thrive on Nintendo Switch 2. He also singled out The Sims as another title that could perform exceptionally well on the new platform.

"Whenever a new console enters the market, it benefits us by expanding our reach to new players," Wilson stated. "Historically, our franchises have performed extremely well on Nintendo platforms. We anticipate that games like FC and Madden will gain significant traction on the Switch 2, as they have in the past."

"Consider The Sims and our My Sims cozy bundle, which exceeded expectations—50% of players were new to EA. This demonstrates the platform's potential for growth."

"While we haven't factored this into our current projections, we're optimistic that new hardware openings doors to fresh audiences, and our IP stands to benefit."

While it's unsurprising that franchises like Madden and FC will launch on Nintendo Switch 2, fans are curious about the versions they'll receive. EA has previously delivered "legacy" editions of FIFA for the original Switch but has recently pushed for feature parity for the rebranded FC series. Given the Switch 2's improved hardware, FC 26 could potentially match its PlayStation, Xbox, and PC counterparts.

With Nintendo officially announcing the Switch 2, expectations are growing around its game lineup. Numerous third-party titles are rumored for the platform, including Firaxis' Civilization 7, which developers have hinted may utilize the Switch 2's rumored Joy-Con mouse mode. French publisher Nacon, known for Greedfall 2 and RoboCop: Rogue City, has confirmed it has Switch 2 titles in development. Additionally, the highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong is speculated to launch on the new console.

As for Nintendo itself, the company is reportedly working on a new Mario Kart installment. More details are expected during an upcoming Nintendo Direct presentation in April.
