Eddie Murphy Joins Pink Panther Reboot in Key Role
Legendary actor Eddie Murphy is returning to the silver screen in an exciting new capacity – this time taking on a delightfully whimsical role. The acclaimed comedian recently confirmed his involvement in an upcoming Pink Panther movie, where he'll portray a key character.
"You'll see me as Inspector Clouseau in the new Pink Panther," Murphy casually shared during his July 28 appearance on Today. "That's right, I'll be the latest incarnation of Clouseau."
Co-anchor Al Roker inquired whether Murphy would maintain the character's signature French mannerisms, prompting the actor to respond: "Possibly. While Clouseau remains French, there's room for Haitian influences too. One thing I can confirm – he'll definitely be Black."
Reports surfaced in May 2023 about Murphy potentially starring in a Pink Panther reboot directed by Sonic the Hedgehog's Jeff Fowler, though that particular adaptation faced development hurdles. Details remain scarce about Murphy's newly announced version, leaving fans eagerly awaiting updates.
The original 1963 Pink Panther film introduced audiences to Inspector Clouseau – played memorably by Peter Sellers across six films until his passing in 1980. Steve Martin later revived the character for two 2000s-era reboots.
Murphy currently divides his time between voicing Donkey in Shrek 5 (slated for Christmas 2024) and starring in the action-comedy The Pickup, premiering August 6 on Prime Video.
