Josef Fares Teases New Solo Game Project
Josef Fares, founder of Hazelight Studios and creator of the cooperative adventure game Split Fiction, recently connected with fans to clarify previous comments and address critiques of his projects. One follower suggested he had previously declared single-player games dead, but Fares firmly denied ever making such a statement. He noted that one of Hazelight’s most acclaimed releases, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (2013), was entirely single-player.

Fares elaborated that although Hazelight is recognized for its co-op design, the possibility of a single-player experience in the style of their previous work remains open. "We’re not ruling it out," he affirmed, stressing the studio's willingness to experiment with different game formats going forward.
Fares also addressed feedback about Split Fiction featuring two female leads, with some fans questioning whether this promoted feminism or a specific agenda. He reminded critics that past Hazelight titles showcased diverse relationships—two brothers in Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, two men in A Way Out, and a male-female pair in It Takes Two. Despite this history, the all-female lead duo in Split Fiction drew special attention.
He stressed that the protagonists were shaped by his own daughters, adding that his focus remains on rich narrative and fully developed personalities, not gender. "What matters is creating memorable characters, not what's between their legs," Fares stated.
Split Fiction launched today, March 6th, to glowing reviews praising its inventive gameplay and diverse settings. System requirements were shared ahead of release, helping players prepare for Hazelight's newest hit.
