Lucasfilm Unveils Updated Star Wars Galaxy Map, Fans Excited About New Locations and Lore
Star Wars fans, get ready to explore the galaxy like never before. Lucasfilm has officially relaunched its ambitious initiative to chart the vast Star Wars universe, unveiling an incredibly detailed galactic map featuring over 500 planets. This meticulously crafted resource opens up new possibilities for fans eager to dive deeper into the geography of a galaxy far, far away.
Ever found yourself curious about the distance between Tatooine and Hoth? Wondered just how secluded Yoda’s hiding place on Dagobah truly was? Or questioned how remote Jakku sits from the galactic core? With this new interactive map, all these answers—and more—are now at your fingertips.
Exploring the Unknown Regions
The newly released map expands our understanding of the galaxy's enigmatic Unknown Regions. Among the notable entries is Exegol, the mysterious Sith world introduced in *Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker*. Remember how Rey had to follow a cryptic trail involving an ancient dagger and a ruined Death Star to locate it? If only she had access to this map, the plot might have unfolded a bit differently.
Interestingly, Exegol isn’t even the most distant planet in the galaxy according to the map. Also located within the Unknown Regions is Csilla, the icy homeworld of the elusive Chiss species—best known as the origin planet of the tactical genius Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Notable Omissions
While the map is comprehensive, not every well-known Star Wars planet makes an appearance. Some locations are missing due to their placement outside the primary galactic boundaries. For example, Kamino—the cloning hub central to the rise of the Grand Army of the Republic—is absent, along with Peridea, the mysterious world visited in *Ahsoka* after the series ventures into a completely different galaxy.
Ongoing Galactic Expansion
Lucasfilm has confirmed that this map will continue to evolve. Updates will be made periodically to reflect new information and discoveries from future films, series, and books. Additionally, high-resolution regional maps covering densely populated areas such as the Inner Rim, Colonies, Core Worlds, and the Deep Core are expected to be released separately.
You can view the full galactic map here, and also browse through an extensive list of all featured planets, making it easier than ever to locate your favorite worlds across the galaxy.
What’s Next for Star Wars?
Fan excitement continues to build as more stories are set to expand the beloved universe. Upcoming projects include the second season of *Ahsoka*, the highly anticipated cinematic debut of *The Mandalorian & Grogu*, and Ryan Gosling’s starring role in the 2027 film *Star Wars: Starfighter*.
