Marvel Rivals Bans Players for Modding After Season 1 Clampdown

Marvel Rivals players continue risking account bans by using mods despite Season 1 restrictions.

Since Marvel Rivals' December launch saw tremendous success, players have persisted with unauthorized custom skins despite ban warnings. Popular modifications transform Iron Man into Dragon Ball's Vegeta, Mantis into gothic versions, and Jeff the Land Shark into Chainsaw Man's Pochita.

With Season 1's Fantastic Four update, NetEase stealth-implemented asset verification to counter mods. The developer reiterated to IGN that mods violate terms of service alongside cheats and hacks. "We strongly advise against modifying game files due to ban risks," NetEase warned.

However, the modding community persists. A new workaround requiring additional steps has surfaced online, remaining accessible to PC players. Modder Prafit, who published the method on Nexus Mods, cautioned: "This bypasses NetEase's new anti-mod system - use at your own discretion. While permanent bans haven't occurred yet, consequences remain uncertain."

The Fantastic Four update inspired fresh mods, like Ercuallo's conversion of Mister Fantastic into One Piece's Luffy. This conversion alone garnered 5,000 downloads within two days of Season 1's launch.

The key question remains whether NetEase will enforce bans against persistent modders. While no confirmed cases exist currently, continued circumvention could prompt stricter measures.

NetEase's opposition stems from multiple concerns: potential lost cosmetic revenue, intellectual property issues, gameplay imbalance risks, and technical performance impacts. Prafit specifically warned their workaround requires high-end PC hardware.
