MLBB Unveils Revamped Mid Season Cup at Esports World Cup 2025
- The Wild Card stage now features a BO3 double-elimination format.
- Group Stage matches will also be BO3 double-elimination, offering an advantage to teams with undefeated records.
- Knockout rounds use a BO5 format, building up to a BO7 Grand Final.
The competitive landscape for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang at the 2025 Esports World Cup has intensified with a newly redesigned format for the Mid Season Cup (MSC). Embracing the theme #EncounterTheUnknown, the tournament introduces structural changes while maintaining a $3 million prize pool.
A key evolution for the MLBB MSC 2025 is the restructuring of both the Wild Card and Group Stage, placing greater emphasis on consistent performance and strategic depth. The Wild Card phase now adopts a Best-of-Three (BO3) GSL double-elimination format, moving away from the previous single-round-robin system.
Eight Wild Card teams will be split into two groups, with the top two from each advancing to a cross-group Semi Final. The winners of these matches will compete in a BO5 decider, with a single slot in the main event on the line.
The Group Stage is also transforming, shifting from a BO2 to a BO3 double-elimination structure. Sixteen teams will be divided into two groups, and only the top four from each will progress to the Knockout Stage.

A new selection system will be implemented here. Teams that finish with a perfect 2-0 record gain the ability to select their Knockout Stage opponents from the pool of teams that advanced with a 2-1 record. The team with the fastest total match time gets to pick first, making every moment of gameplay even more critical.

This year’s MSC also debuts a third-place match, offering Semi Finalists another opportunity to secure a podium finish. The Knockout Stage will employ a BO5 single-elimination format, culminating in a Best-of-Seven Grand Final to crown the ultimate champion.
The total prize pool holds steady at $3 million. The champion will claim $1 million, the runner-up receives $500,000, and the third-place team earns $250,000—an increase from last year’s $200,000 prize.
