Outriders Dev Blames Square Enix for Canceled Game
People Can Fly, the Polish studio behind Outriders and Gears of War Judgment, has announced significant staff reductions following the cancellation of two major projects: Project Gemini and Project Bifrost.
"Today we made the difficult decision to halt development on Project Gemini and Project Bifrost - official notifications have been submitted to market regulators," CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski stated in an official announcement.
"The suspension of Project Gemini results from the publisher failing to provide a revised content agreement covering additional milestones, coupled with their lack of communication regarding continuation plans," Wojciechowski explained. "Project Bifrost's cancellation stems from this situation and our financial analysis showing insufficient resources to complete production."
The CEO added: "This necessitates major studio restructuring and team reductions, which we deeply regret. We're profoundly grateful for our team's dedication and contributions throughout these projects."
While Wojciechowski's statement didn't identify the publishers involved, the developer's official site indicates Square Enix partnered on Gemini, with Bifrost being internally funded. Square Enix hasn't issued any statement.
This follows last year's workforce reduction of 120 employees and project scaling. The studio continues developing Project Echo with Krafton, Project Delta for Sony, and Gears of War: E-Day with Microsoft.
Their latest release remains Bulletstorm VR, a modernized version of the classic shooter for Meta Quest and PSVR 2 headsets.
