Peter Parker Battles Godzilla in Epic Showdown

The release of Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1 follows the success of Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four #1 in March and Godzilla vs. Hulk #1 in April. Like its predecessors, this issue is a nostalgic trip set in a past decade. Specifically, it takes place shortly after Peter Parker’s return from Battleworld in 1984's Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars, as he begins to cope with the consequences of bonding with the alien symbiote costume. When Godzilla arrives in New York City, Spidey must summon every ounce of his strength to protect his city.

This action-packed issue is penned by Joe Kelly, who will soon be leading the relaunch of The Amazing Spider-Man. The artwork is handled by Nick Bradshaw (Wolverine and the X-Men), with stunning covers by Bradshaw, Lee Garbett, and Greg Land.

“I nearly jumped across the table when I heard about the ‘80s-era Godzilla x Spider-Man crossover,” Kelly said. “This book lets me go all out with two legendary characters while channeling the chaotic energy of the era I grew up reading. This isn’t the first time Godzilla has crossed paths with Western superheroes. DC recently released Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, with a sequel planned. However, where DC’s version features MonsterVerse interpretations, Marvel’s crossovers focus on the classic Toho Godzilla.

Additionally, this news comes hot on the heels of IDW’s Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1, an anthology special benefiting wildfire relief charities.
