Zelnick Reassures Investors Over GTA 6 Delay, Share Decline

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has addressed shareholder concerns following the announcement of GTA 6's delay.

Earlier today, Rockstar confirmed a major delay for GTA 6, which is anticipated to become the largest entertainment launch in history. Originally scheduled for a fall 2025 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, the game will now launch on May 26, 2026. This change shifts the release from Take-Two's 2026 fiscal year to its 2027 fiscal year.

At the time of writing, Take-Two's stock had dropped 7.98% in early trading. In a corporate statement, the company reaffirmed its expectation of achieving sequential growth and record Net Bookings (revenue) levels in both Fiscal 2026 and 2027.

Zelnick expressed full support for Rockstar's decision to delay GTA 6, assuring shareholders that the company is positioned for a "multi-year" growth phase.

"We completely stand behind Rockstar Games' choice to extend development time to perfect their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI, which aims to deliver a groundbreaking, blockbuster entertainment experience surpassing audience expectations," Zelnick stated.

"While we take title scheduling seriously and recognize the immense global anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI, our dedication to quality remains unwavering. As we continue rolling out our exceptional pipeline, we anticipate sustained business growth and increased shareholder value over multiple years."

With GTA 6 and its projected billions now shifted out of the 2026 fiscal year, what other projects does Take-Two have underway? Beyond Rockstar, Take-Two oversees publishers 2K Games and 2K Sports. Gearbox's Borderlands 4 is set for September release, alongside Mafia: The Old Country later this year. Another profitable NBA installment (NBA 2K26) from 2K Sports is also expected. Further ahead, the next BioShock title and Ken Levine's upcoming project Judas are in development.

Realistically, however, none of 2K's forthcoming releases over the next year can compensate for the monumental impact of GTA 6's absence, leaving Take-Two's revenue projections lower than initially planned. While fans generally anticipated potential delays, many had hoped for at least a new screenshot to ease the disappointment.
