Ubisoft Restarts Project Maverick Development: Rumor
The extraction shooter set in the Far Cry universe, taking place in Alaska, has undergone a complete reboot, as reported by Insider Gaming. Initially known as Project Maverick, it was originally planned as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7. However, after an internal review, the project saw substantial changes. Despite receiving positive feedback from employees and testers, Ubisoft's management chose to redirect most resources to Project Blackbird (Far Cry 7). The multiplayer component's fate was sealed when the technical team was reassigned to other projects.
The responsibility for the rebooted project has now been transferred to Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio known for its development support expertise. Almost the entire original development team has shifted their focus to the next Far Cry installment.

According to insider Tom Henderson's mid-December 2024 report, Far Cry 7 aims to immerse players in an atmosphere filled with tension and desperation, with time as the central antagonist. The game's narrative will center around the protagonist's family being kidnapped by a mysterious cult involved in terrifying experiments using hallucinogens on animals and children. Players must race against a tight 72 in-game hour deadline, which translates to 24 real-time hours, to rescue their loved ones, making time a critical gameplay element that heightens the urgency and intensity of the experience.
A unique feature of Far Cry 7 will be a timer displayed on the protagonist's wristwatch, serving as a constant reminder of the ticking clock. This element not only increases the sense of urgency but also adds pressure, compelling players to make swift and strategic decisions. Far Cry 7 is poised to offer a gripping experience where every second is precious, and every decision can have significant repercussions.
