"Ultimate Engine Tweaks: The Top Mod for Oblivion Remastered Boosts PC Performance"

If you're among the many players diving into The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on PC, you may have already encountered its glaring performance issues.

According to Digital Foundry’s in-depth analysis, the remastered edition suffers from severe performance problems. Video producer Alex Battaglia described it as “perhaps one of the worst-running games I've ever tested for Digital Foundry,” highlighting persistent and disruptive stuttering—even on top-tier hardware.

“Even if you're running the most powerful hardware around, the stuttering is egregious, dragging down the experience to the point where I really don't understand how this was considered good enough for release,” Battaglia said.

He also pointed out the game’s bafflingly high resource demands. “Beyond the hitching, we are looking at one of the most bizarrely resource-intensive games I've ever tested—so even if you're OK with lurching stutter, you'll be turning down the settings just to keep the average frame-rate looking acceptable.”

PlayGiven these issues, it’s no surprise that the most popular mod on Nexus Mods for *Oblivion Remastered* is P40L0’s **Ultimate Engine Tweaks (Anti-Stutters - Lower Latency - No Film Grain - No Chromatic Aberration - Lossless)**, which has been downloaded over 386,604 times in under a week.

The mod’s description reads:
“Definitive Unreal ‘Engine.ini’ changes with the goal to remove most stutters, improve performance and stability, decrease input latency, improve picture clarity. All with no visual loss.”

P40L0 explained, “After months of UE5 testing, I would like to share my definitive custom ‘Engine.ini’ changes for the game. My goal was to include as many optimizations as possible (for CPU/GPU/RAM/SSD) to eliminate stuttering, boost performance, reduce input lag, and enhance image clarity—removing Film Grain and Chromatic Aberration, optimizing DLSS/FSR upscaling, and more—without any visual degradation or risk of crashes.”

View 6 ImagesUser feedback on the mod has been overwhelmingly positive. “Stutter be gone! Simply amazing, thanks!” wrote chubbyd07. “This .ini is a miracle. From 15-20 fps outside the prison to 65-70 stable. Running on 3600XT and a 2060 with 20GB of RAM (yes),” shared yeeto51. Another player, BabaSmith, exclaimed, “Uhm, what the hell! I went from 60fps on High Preset around Waynon Priory to 90-110fps on the same location. Wizardry!!”

Despite these technical shortcomings, Oblivion Remastered remains a major success, achieving a strong concurrent player peak on Steam and surpassing 4 million players across all platforms. On Steam, it holds a ‘very positive’ user review rating.

However, a recent hotfix released on April 25 has caused issues for Microsoft Store users—particularly those playing via Game Pass for PC. The update has broken access to key graphics settings, including upscaling and anti-aliasing options, due to a malfunction in the settings UI. Bethesda has acknowledged the problem and stated they are actively working on a fix.
