Black Myth: Wukong, the action RPG based on the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, is finally launching on Xbox Series X/S on August 20, 2025—exactly one year after its initial release on PS5 and PC.

Xbox announced the news on Twitter/X, stating, "You are the Destined One. Black Myth: Wukong arrives on August 20. Pre-orders start June 18!"

Black Myth: Wukong has been a massive commercial success, selling over 25 million copies as of January 31, 2025. Its absence from the Xbox platform has been conspicuous, especially since the game was never officially announced as an exclusive.

Some reports suggested the delay was due to an exclusivity agreement with Sony rather than technical hurdles. However, Game Science's founder, Fen Ji, was quoted attributing the hold-up to challenges with the Xbox Series S hardware.

“The Xbox version is the only one missing, which does feel odd,” he reportedly said via machine translation. “But that 10GB of shared memory is extremely difficult to optimize for without years of hands-on experience.”

These obstacles now seem to have been overcome, allowing Xbox players to finally experience the acclaimed action RPG.

In our review of Black Myth: Wukong, we praised it as "a great action game with fantastic combat, thrilling boss battles, intriguing secrets, and a stunning world," despite noting some technical frustrations.
