Chants of Sennaar: Decode Tongues in Babel's Tower

Chants of Sennaar is now available on mobile devices! Created by Rundisc and released on mobile by Playdigious, the game takes cues from titles like Heaven’s Vault and Captain Blood. It originally launched in September 2023 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows.

Chants of Sennaar reimagines the story of Babel through puzzles and cultural exploration. It earned the Best Indie Game award at the 2024 New York Game Awards and received multiple nominations at major events, including The Game Awards and the BAFTAs.

Decode, Learn and Connect in Chants of Sennaar

The premise is rooted in the Tower of Babel myth, where language is both the key barrier and the essential solution. You take on the role of the Traveler, a robed character awakening inside a sarcophagus at the foot of a massive ziggurat-like tower.

Each tier of the spiraling structure is inhabited by a unique caste with its own culture and language. To reach higher levels, you must interpret these languages, bridge communication gaps, and rebuild relationships among separated communities.

Gameplay centers on careful observation, listening, and recording symbols and their meanings in your notebook. The challenge is not only decoding languages but also using your understanding to interact across cultures and climb further.

Artistically, the game draws strong inspiration from Moebius and French-Belgian comics. Every tower level reflects a singular style, shaped by architectural, technological, and cultural details. The rich visuals are paired with a soundtrack by Thomas Brunet. Watch it in action below.

Featuring five unique peoples to meet and a complex tower to ascend, the Traveler’s quest is deeply thoughtful. On mobile, the game includes full cloud save functionality and options to cap the frame rate at 30 or 60 FPS.
