FromSoftware has recognized matchmaking difficulties in Elden Ring Nightreign during its debut weekend, providing guidance for affected players.

On May 31, FromSoftware posted on social media, tackling issues faced by players struggling to connect with others for multiplayer expeditions in the Elden Ring spin-off. The developer recommended restarting the matchmaking process as a potential fix. While not a comprehensive solution, it shows the team is aware of the issue. “We appreciate your patience and support,” the statement concluded.

In a follow-up post, FromSoftware highlighted specific problems on PlayStation consoles. Players on PS4 and PS5 facing matchmaking issues were advised to verify their NAT type. “NAT type 3 may disrupt matchmaking on PSN,” the developer noted.

Check your NAT type with the following steps:Home > Settings > Network > Connection Status > Check Connection Status

No specific guidance has been provided for Xbox users at this time.

On May 30, producer Yasuhiro Kitao shared on social media that Elden Ring Nightreign sold 2 million units on its first day, celebrating its early success.

“Nightreign introduces unique gameplay elements, setting it apart from our recent titles,” Kitao explained. “We’re thrilled to see so many players dive into this world, and we’re deeply grateful for your enthusiasm.”

“Like Demon’s Souls or Sekiro, Nightreign may feel daunting at first, but it offers its own distinct challenges and rewards. Push past the initial difficulty, and you’ll find a unique sense of triumph.”

“We hope you enjoy the journey.”

What’s behind the buzz? Nightreign currently holds a ‘mixed’ user rating on Steam, with criticism focusing on its punishing solo mode, lack of duo co-op, absence of voice chat, and dated mechanics. The challenge of assembling a three-player team remains a core part of the Elden Ring Nightreign experience. A patch to ease solo gameplay is slated for next week.

As noted in IGN’s Elden Ring Nightreign review: “A key point to address upfront: if you’re hoping to play Nightreign solo and aren’t an avid Elden Ring fan who thrives on making tough games even harder, this title may not suit you. While a single-player mode exists, its balance is so off that a patch seems likely within the first month. This comes from someone who lives for these games.”
