Japanese Switch 2 Priced Lower Than Global Version
The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch with different pricing strategies for Japan and the rest of the world. This exciting new gaming system will come in two distinct versions: a Japanese-language system exclusive to Japan and a Multi-Language System designed for global audiences.
Switch 2 Will Have 2 Language System Versions
In Japan, the Nintendo Switch 2's Japanese-language system will be priced at approximately $330. In contrast, the Multi-Language System, available worldwide, will retail for $449.99. This significant price difference of over $100 can be attributed to the current economic climate, particularly the weak yen against the US dollar, which impacts tourist purchasing power in Japan.
Residents of Japan will have the option to purchase the Multi-Language System, but the Japanese-language version will be exclusively sold within Japan. This version requires a Nintendo Account set to Japan as the Country/Region and supports only the Japanese language. Additionally, the software available on the Nintendo eShop for this version will be limited to titles for the Japanese region.
For those interested in using the Nintendo Switch 2 in multiple languages, Nintendo recommends purchasing the Multi-Language System version. More detailed information about this version will be disclosed on April 4.
Switch 2 Will Be Sold By Lottery At The My Nintendo Store
To acquire the Nintendo Switch 2, customers can participate in a lottery through the My Nintendo Store. Starting April 24, retailers and online shops across Japan will also open reservations or accept lottery entries based on availability. To enter the My Nintendo Store lottery, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- By February 28, 2025, have accumulated at least 50 hours of playtime on Nintendo Switch software, excluding demo and free software.
- At the time of application, have a cumulative subscription of at least one year to Nintendo Switch Online and be an active subscriber.
Further details regarding the application process will be available on the My Nintendo Store on April 4.
