Marvel Star Simu Liu Says He's Working to Get Sleeping Dogs a Film Adaptation
Simu Liu, the star of Marvel's Shang-Chi, is aiming to revive the cancelled Sleeping Dogs film adaptation. Newsweek reports Liu responded to a fan on X (formerly Twitter) expressing their desire for a film adaptation of the 2012 video game, stating he's actively pursuing the project. "Working with the rights holders to bring Sleeping Dogs to the big screen," he tweeted.
The project, initially announced in 2017 with Donnie Yen attached to star, vanished a year later. Recently, Yen confirmed its cancellation, citing years of invested time, effort, and personal funds, only to see the project ultimately fail. He alluded to the unpredictable nature of Hollywood.
Liu's intervention reignites hope for a Sleeping Dogs movie. However, whether he secures the rights or successfully moves the project forward remains uncertain.
The original Sleeping Dogs game, released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, follows Detective Wei Shen as he infiltrates a Hong Kong Triad. Critically acclaimed, achieving an 8/10 rating from IGN, the game surprisingly never received a sequel.
