Mortal Kombat 2: First Look at Karl Urban's Johnny Cage
Get ready for the next chapter in the Mortal Kombat saga! A first look at Karl Urban as Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 2 has been revealed.
Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon unveiled a poster showcasing Urban (known for The Boys and Judge Dredd) as the iconic Hollywood actor and fighter, Johnny Cage. The poster cleverly mimics a fictional Johnny Cage film, complete with the over-the-top action typical of the character.
Mortal Kombat 2 directly follows the 2021 reboot, featuring Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, and Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero. Joining the cast are Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Damon Herriman as Quan Chi.
The first film focused on Cole Young's introduction to the Mortal Kombat universe and the rivalry between Scorpion and Sub-Zero. While plot details for the sequel remain under wraps, the vast lore of the video game franchise offers numerous story possibilities.
Initially planned for a theatrical release, the first Mortal Kombat film premiered on HBO Max due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Mortal Kombat 2 is slated for a theatrical debut on October 24, 2025.
Our review of the first film awarded it a 7, praising its "spectacular display of blood, guts, and effects-heavy martial arts battles."
