Sadie Sink, known for her role as Max Mayfield in the hit series Stranger Things, is set to join the cast of Spider-Man 4 alongside Tom Holland. According to Deadline, filming for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie is scheduled to start later this year, with a release date set for July 31, 2026. Both Marvel and Sony have remained silent when approached for comments.

There's speculation that Sink might portray the iconic X-Men character Jean Grey or another well-known redheaded character from the Spider-Man universe, such as Mary Jane Watson. This casting choice raises questions about how her character would fit into Peter Parker's existing relationship with Michelle "MJ" Jones-Watson, portrayed by Zendaya in earlier films. Given the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Peter's identity is erased from everyone's memory, Sink's role is expected to be significant and could signal a new direction for the series.

Tom Holland, currently involved in shooting Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, is slated to begin work on Spider-Man 4 once his current project wraps up.

Last year, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige hinted at the integration of X-Men characters into the MCU in the "next few" movies. Speaking at the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore, Feige suggested that fans would encounter familiar X-Men characters soon, though he did not specify which characters or films. He also teased a broader narrative involving mutants leading into Avengers: Secret Wars, marking a new era for the X-Men within the MCU.

Considering the MCU's upcoming slate, the introduction of X-Men characters could occur in films like Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, or The Fantastic Four: First Steps. More likely, however, are appearances in Phase 6 films such as Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-Man 4, and Avengers: Secret Wars. The return of characters like Deadpool and Wolverine, following their successful standalone film, and possibly Channing Tatum as Gambit, remains a topic of interest.

Feige has emphasized that the X-Men will play a crucial role in the MCU's future post-Secret Wars. He likened the buildup to Secret Wars to the narrative arc leading to Avengers: Endgame, indicating a clear path forward for the franchise with the X-Men at its core. Phase 7 of the MCU is expected to be heavily influenced by the X-Men, with Storm already making an appearance in What If...? Season 3.

In addition, Marvel Studios has added three untitled movie projects to its 2028 release schedule, increasing speculation that one of these could be an X-Men film.
