Star Wars: Marvel Explores Republic's Dawn
Marvel Comics announces a May 2025 relaunch of its flagship Star Wars comic series. Picking up after the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, the series follows Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they establish the New Republic and navigate a galaxy still reeling from conflict.
Alex Segura, writer of the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, pens this new volume. Veteran Star Wars artist Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) provides the illustrations, with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing covers for the debut issue.
Set approximately two years post-Return of the Jedi, Segura and Noto's Star Wars depicts the New Republic's struggle to solidify its power amidst opportunistic pirates, criminals, and other emerging threats exploiting the power vacuum.
"Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we're launching into a fresh, uncharted era," Segura explained to StarWars.com. "This will feature new galactic threats, adversaries, and enigmas for our heroes to confront, blending familiar elements with the unexpected. These stories will be action-packed, with character moments Star Wars fans expect, offering unique twists on the galaxy while remaining accessible to new readers."
Noto added, "Alex has crafted fantastic storylines and characters, and I'm excited to bring them to life. It's also been a thrill to depict the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, creating new looks while drawing inspiration from the original actors."
Star Wars #1 launches May 7, 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day celebrations.
This isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi comic; February sees the debut of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, exploring Kylo Ren's journey following The Last Jedi.
