Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to Support Cloud Saves

Nintendo has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will indeed support cloud saves, alleviating concerns among fans. Initially, Nintendo's pages for the Switch 2 edition of the game included a disclaimer stating that it did not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership's Save Data Cloud backup feature. This led to worries that some games, or at least this one, would not have this functionality.

However, Nintendo has since updated its website with new information. While the page for Donkey Kong Bananza has removed all references to cloud saves, the disclaimer on Tears of the Kingdom's page has been revised. It now clarifies that "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch." This change suggests that players will be able to transfer their saves from the original Switch to the Switch 2, but transferring saves back to the original system will not be possible.

The same message has also been added to the page for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, indicating a consistent approach to save data transfers across these titles.

This updated disclaimer should reassure Switch 2 owners about the continuity of their gaming experience. Meanwhile, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2, priced at $449.99, have gone live and have been met with high demand. For more details, check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
