Pesten With Cards is a classic Dutch card game that literally means Bullying With Cards. It shares similarities with games like Mau-Mau, Crazy Eights, Shedding, Puque, Чешский Дурак, Фараон, Крокодил, Tschau Sepp, and Uno, played in various countries. The primary objective is to be the first to discard all of your cards. A crucial rule is that the winner must declare "Last Card" before playing their final card; failure to do so results in a penalty of picking up two cards.
The game supports multiple decks, including jokers. Each player starts with 7 cards, and the remaining cards form the stock or stack. The top card of the stock is turned face up to start the discard pile. Players take turns clockwise, and if a "Pest-card" is the first card revealed, the dealer must execute its effect as if they played it.
During your turn, you must play a card that matches either the number or suit of the top card on the discard pile. Jokers and Jacks are exceptions and can be played on any card. If you can't play, you must draw a card from the stock. If the drawn card can be played, you have the option to play it immediately or keep it in your hand.
Last Card
When you are down to your last card, you must click the "Last Card" button above your cards to alert others. Forgetting to do this before playing your last card results in a two-card penalty, and your last card is not played. Incorrectly declaring "Last Card" also incurs a two-card penalty. You can press the "Last Card" button at any time, even when it's not your turn, to ensure you don't forget.
Winning the round involves playing your last card on the discard pile, but it cannot be a special card.
Special Cards
Special cards trigger specific actions based on their number or type. These actions can vary in the Netherlands, and the game allows you to configure these settings to match your preferences. Here are the actions associated with special cards:
Joker: The next player must draw 5 cards. If they play a joker, the following player draws 10 cards. Each subsequent joker adds 5 more cards. Players drawing cards cannot play them immediately; the next player proceeds.
Two: The next player draws 2 cards. Playing another two doubles the penalty to 4 cards. If enabled, a joker can be played on a two, adding 5 cards. A two cannot be played on a joker. Players drawing cards cannot play them immediately; the next player proceeds.
Seven: You must play another card on top of it. Remember to say "Last Card" if applicable. If you can't play another card, you draw from the stock.
Eight: The next player skips their turn. In a two-player game, this allows you to play another card. Similar to the seven.
Ten: Each player passes one card to the player on their left. Click on the card you wish to pass.
