"Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Surpasses 1 Million Sales in 3 Days"

Author : Julian Jun 11,2025

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has surpassed one million copies sold, announced publisher Kepler Interactive.

The game’s success was already evident, having sold 500,000 copies within the first 24 hours of release. Now, it has doubled that number in just three days—a testament to its rapid popularity.

“Three days after launch. One million copies sold. Thank you for believing in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33,” the developer shared on social media over the weekend.

But that’s not all. According to SteamDB, the game also reached a peak of 121,422 concurrent players on Steam—an impressive figure that outpaces even the peak player count of well-known RPGs like Atlus’ Metaphor: ReFantazio, which launched in October 2024 with a peak of 85,961 players.

It’s worth noting that concurrent player counts don’t tell the full story. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is available on multiple platforms including PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S, and launched day-one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. This means the actual number of players who joined the experience over the weekend is likely much higher—further reinforcing the game's current popularity.

In IGN’s 9/10 review of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the title was hailed as a “modern RPG classic.” Developed by new studio Sandfall Interactive, this turn-based RPG draws deep inspiration from genre greats. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the game follows a group of Expeditioners tasked with stopping The Paintress—a colossal entity that marks each year by erasing anyone older than the newly inscribed number. Players join a crew traveling across the continent to put an end to her reign.
