Hasbro has revealed plans to expand the beloved trading card game, Magic: The Gathering, into a multimedia franchise. In collaboration with Legendary Entertainment, they aim to create a shared universe that will span both movies and television series, with the film taking precedence.

Legendary's chairman of worldwide production emphasized their commitment to nurturing iconic intellectual properties, stating, “We pride ourselves on being thoughtful caretakers of singular, beloved IP, and no property better fits that description than Magic: The Gathering.” Legendary Entertainment, known for blockbuster hits like Dune, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Detective Pikachu, is steering this ambitious project.

While details are still emerging, it appears that Legendary's adaptations might not connect directly with the previously announced Magic: The Gathering animated series on Netflix. However, there's a possibility that the plans have evolved, and the animated series could now be integrated into this expansive shared universe.

Magic: The Gathering, launched by Wizards of the Coast in 1993, has evolved into one of the world's most renowned trading card games. Wizards of the Coast became part of Hasbro in 1999, marking the beginning of Hasbro's journey in expanding its intellectual properties into various media.

Hasbro has a robust history of transforming its popular products into cinematic experiences, including franchises like G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons and Dragons. Currently, the company is developing several new projects, such as additional G.I. Joe films, a new Power Rangers movie, and a Beyblade film, showcasing its ongoing commitment to multimedia storytelling.
