Nintendo Comments on Latest Switch 2 Leak
Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025
Nintendo has issued an uncommon statement regarding the recent flurry of Switch 2 leaks stemming from CES 2025. The company confirmed that the circulating images are not official, a simple yet noteworthy declaration given Nintendo's typically reserved approach to leak responses. This official denial stems from Nintendo's absence from CES 2025; therefore, any Switch 2 imagery originating from the show cannot be considered authentic promotional material.
The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, coinciding with reports of its mass production commencement. Accessory manufacturer Genki's display of a purported Switch 2 replica at CES 2025 further fueled the speculation. Images of this replica quickly spread across social media.
Nintendo's statement, made in response to an inquiry from the Sankei Shimbun, directly addressed the Genki replica, labeling the accompanying images and videos as "not official." The company emphasized its non-participation in CES 2025 as the reason for this clarification.
Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?
While Nintendo refrained from commenting on the accuracy of Genki's replica, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most significant difference from the original Switch is the addition of a new button below the right Joy-Con's home button, labeled "C," with its function currently unknown. The replica is also reportedly slightly larger than its predecessor.
Genki's CEO, Eddie Tsai, offered additional insights, claiming the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will utilize magnetic attachments instead of sliding rails and will function as mouse controls—a feature previously suggested by other sources. However, he remained silent on the purpose of the mysterious "C" button.
Nintendo's previous statements indicated a Switch 2 reveal within fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. Retail availability is not expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
