Nintendo Reveals Free Performance Upgrades for Switch 1 Games on Switch 2

Nintendo has announced a series of exciting free performance upgrades for several beloved Switch 1 games that will be available on the new Switch 2. Titles like Arms, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, Super Mario Odyssey, and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom are among those set to receive enhancements, promising a better gaming experience for fans.
To access these upgrades, you simply need to connect your Nintendo Switch 2 to the internet and download a system update. As stated on the official Nintendo website:
By connecting your Nintendo Switch 2 to the internet and performing a system update, you can download free updates for selected games that may improve graphics or add support for features such as GameShare. The contents of these free updates will differ depending on the game.
It's important to note that these updates are complimentary and distinct from the premium "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games. For instance, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom offer free upgrades to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
Here’s what Switch 2 owners can look forward to:
- Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: Enhanced image quality for high-resolution TVs and improved framerate for smoother gameplay.
- Super Mario Odyssey: HDR support and GameShare functionality, allowing two players to enjoy the game together online, with one controlling Mario and the other Cappy.
However, it's worth mentioning that Nintendo's list does not address framerate issues for the top-down Zelda games, which is a notable oversight considering their previous performance challenges.
