Nintendo Switch 2 Preorders Begin in UK: Available on Amazon

Author : Hunter May 26,2025

Amazon UK has now opened preorders for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 to everyone, moving away from its previous invite-only system. You can secure your console today without any immediate payment, as Amazon will only charge you once your Switch 2 ships. This no-risk approach ensures you can reserve your console with peace of mind. Although some early listings suggested a June 7th delivery, Amazon support has confirmed this was a mistake, and the correct launch day remains June 5th.

In the UK, preorders are flowing smoothly, with no reported price hikes or delays. Interestingly, some US gamers have managed to preorder through Amazon UK using international shipping, though success varies. Argos has restocked Switch 2 preorders today, April 8, in the UK, offering not only the console but also a range of games and accessories. If you missed out on previous opportunities, now's your chance to secure one without any hassle.

Nintendo's official UK preorders also started today, with retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths selling out quickly. Unfortunately, this has led to scalpers selling the console at inflated prices on eBay. Currently, Amazon and Argos are the most reliable options for securing a Switch 2 in the UK.

In our preview, Logan Plant shared his insights on the Switch 2: "The Switch 2 feels like a premium upgrade, with a price to match. It's a refined version of an already beloved console, introducing exciting features like mouse controls. While we're definitely getting one on launch day, and enjoyed our hands-on time, I have some reservations about its broad appeal at $450, especially with a $80 Mario Kart."

"It's a significant investment for a brand known for catering to families and younger audiences, and I worry that the high entry cost might hinder its widespread adoption compared to its predecessor. Nonetheless, for those willing to invest, the Switch 2 promises to be a fantastic hybrid console with numerous enhancements and fun new additions."

Play35% Off NSO Expansion Pack Memberships --------------------------------------

One of the standout features of the Switch 2 is its exclusive online library, including GameCube games. UK retailer ShopTo is currently offering a 35% discount on Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) Expansion Pack memberships, with an additional 5% off using the code SPRING at checkout. This is a great deal to consider as you lock in your Switch 2 preorder.

While some classic games are available with the base NSO subscription, GameCube titles require the Expansion Pack. Note that while you can subscribe monthly to the basic plan, the Expansion Pack is only available annually. For individual players, the NSO + Expansion Pack plan is now £24.55, and the Family Membership is £43.55 with the promo code SPRING.

In an unexpected move, Nintendo has postponed Switch 2 preorders in the United States due to uncertainties around tariffs and evolving market conditions, including potential import duties. Originally set to begin on April 9, preorders have been delayed indefinitely, though the global release date of June 5, 2025, remains firm.

Nintendo's statement to IGN reads: "Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025, to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, is unchanged."

This delay affects only the US market, with UK preorders continuing as planned, and no changes to pricing or availability. Amazon UK is actively sending out preorder invitations, and stock is rapidly depleting.

The Switch 2 is priced at $449.99 USD, with the Mario Kart World bundle, including the full game, at $499.99 USD. Mario Kart World will also be available separately for $79.99 USD.

PlaySwitch 2 UK Preorder News -------------------------

For those wary of upfront payment, Amazon remains the best choice in the UK. Unlike other retailers like Argos, which require immediate payment, Amazon will only charge upon dispatch, providing a more budget-friendly option. The invitation system for Amazon preorders appears to be a random selection process, making it accessible to anyone.

Preorders at the Nintendo Store are restricted to long-term Nintendo Switch Online subscribers with high playtime and data sharing. In contrast, Amazon’s system is more open, offering a fair chance to all. Retailers like Currys and Smyths are expected to open more preorders later via email alerts and queue systems, similar to their successful PS5 launch strategy. This approach may mean a longer wait, but it's less frustrating for those who don't meet Nintendo's strict criteria.
