DC Studios head James Gunn has exciting news for fans, confirming that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. Alongside this announcement, Gunn shared a tantalizing snippet of new footage, showcasing John Cena's character in action. In one scene, Peacemaker smirks at the camera with a fire blazing behind him, and he's referred to as "a superhero now."

Gunn expressed his enthusiasm on Twitter, stating that the Season 2 premiere is "one of my favorite things ever." He recently completed the DI & Mix on the premiere, underscoring his personal investment in the project.

The release of Peacemaker Season 2 follows the July 11 debut of Superman, marking the significant launch of Gunn's reimagined DC Universe (DCU). This season will be the third installment in the new DCU, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman film.

James Gunn, along with co-CEO Peter Safran, is steering the DCU away from the criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, some elements from the DCEU are being retained, with Peacemaker serving as a prime example. While Season 1 was part of the DCEU, Season 2 transitions into the new DCU.

Gunn has hinted at continuity, mentioning that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though specifics about what will carry over from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He confirmed that the entire Team Peacemaker will return with the original cast, including John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Furthermore, Gunn noted that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly influencing Peacemaker's storyline.
