Silksong Dev Clarifies Release: 'Before Holiday,' Unrelated to Xbox Handheld
The latest update regarding *Hollow Knight: Silksong* has brought some clarity following its unexpected mention during Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase 2025. During the event, Xbox president Sarah Bond mentioned that the game would be “available at launch and in Game Pass when Ally releases later this year,” leading many to speculate that the title was being timed specifically for the ROG Ally X handheld's debut.
However, Team Cherry has since clarified that *Silksong* is not being held back for any console release and will arrive before the Holiday 2025 window — specifically by Christmas. In a message posted on the game’s official Discord server and seen by IGN, Team Cherry marketing manager Matthew "Leth" Griffin confirmed, “I confirmed BEFORE Holiday,” and added, “we are not tied to a console release.” When asked for further clarification on which holiday he meant, Griffin responded plainly: “Christmas yes.”
What About a September Release?
Speculation around an earlier release has grown due to the announcement that *Hollow Knight: Silksong* will be playable at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in Melbourne — a museum dedicated to screen culture — starting September 18, 2025. This public showcase could hint that the game is nearing completion and potentially launching sooner than the end-of-year window.
Fans had hoped for a concrete release date during the Xbox Games Showcase, especially after recent updates to the game’s Steam store page suggested a possible imminent launch or even a surprise drop. However, while *Final Fantasy XVI* made its long-awaited console debut via a shadow drop, *Silksong* players remain in wait.

While the wait continues, it's reassuring to know that the finish line is now within sight. With a potential September showing and a guaranteed release before Christmas, fans can look forward to experiencing the highly anticipated Metroidvania adventure soon. And for those interested in playing it on the go, the upcoming ROG Ally X promises to be a great portable option once the device launches.
