Kepler Interactive’s senior portfolio manager Matt Handrahan told The Game Business last week: “We always recognized Expedition 33’s unique identity. During my time in the press, I observed that Western RPGs and Japanese RPGs cater to different audiences. Many players who enjoy Elder Scrolls games might not gravitate toward Final Fantasy, and vice versa.

“By launch, we had built our own momentum and felt assured we could hold our own. Factors like our pricing and Game Pass inclusion gave us confidence in attracting significant interest. The outcome exceeded our expectations. Being near Oblivion’s release didn't hurt us—it actually helped spotlight high-quality RPGs that week, getting everyone discussing the genre.”
